Rafał Trzaskowski criticized President Andrzej Duda for vetoing the bill reducing health insurance contributions. In an interview with Radio ZET, he emphasized that he would sign it himself, pointing to the need for reform of the National Health Fund and better management of hospitals using EU funds.
- Trzaskowski considered the president's veto a mistake and stressed that PiS had introduced tax chaos that hit entrepreneurs
- He sees the need to reform the National Health Fund and continue obtaining EU funds for healthcare.
- He refuted the allegations of alleged privatization of hospitals, pointing to his experience in managing Warsaw facilities.
The Civic Coalition candidate in the 2025 presidential election and current mayor of Warsaw was a guest of Bogdan Rymanowski on Wednesday morning in the "Gość Radio ZET" broadcast and was asked whether he would praise President Andrzej Duda for the decision to veto the reduction in health insurance contributions.
There would be no privatization. A reform can be introduced in which the system will close- No, I will not approve. For a simple reason: PiS has brought incredible chaos with its Polish Deal. Horrendous burdens for our entrepreneurs. Let me remind you that almost 600 thousand companies had to suspend their activities. In connection with this, I have always been an advocate of slowly eliminating such unfair burdens - especially at a time when the Minister of Finance assured - clearly assured - that it would not affect the budget of the National Health Fund. So I would sign such a law. And it is obvious to me that a very thorough reform of the National Health Fund is needed, which, by the way, the Minister has started to do very well at the moment - replied Rafał Trzaskowski.
Rymanowski pointed out, however, that MP Adrian Zandberg, leader of the Razem party, thanked the president and said that if there had been no veto, the current government would have privatized hospitals .
- This is absolutely untrue - replied Trzaskowski. - Here, first of all, we need to change the way hospitals are managed, to use EU money better. I know something about this, because I manage ten hospitals in Warsaw. We are currently obtaining money from the European Union, which was blocked by PiS. I managed to obtain 200 million for the fight against cancer, one of the last budget decisions in March. We have invested 800 million zlotys in our hospitals in Warsaw. So we can manage hospitals well. Of course, it is easier in Warsaw - he stated.
- We can introduce a reform that will lead to the system closing down - also, precisely, by obtaining huge amounts of money from the European Union. What is this government doing, well over a billion from the KPO - and that is exactly what it is about, to relieve entrepreneurs and reduce these horrendous burdens on the one hand, and to reform the health service on the other - the presidential candidate summed up.
